Information on Dominica

Getting Here:
There is no international airport on the island. However, we do have two smaller airports. Melville Hall (code: DOM) is the larger of the two and is approx 45 minutes from Portsmouth. Canefield (DCF) is smaller and is also about 45 minutes from Portsmouth. Neither presently offer night landing.
Main airlines serving Dominica include LIAT, American Eagle, Caribbean Sun and Caribbean Star. Major hubs in the region with flights to Dominica include Antigua, San Juan, St. Lucia, St Martin and Barbados.
The neighboring French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe are also convenient hubs for flights from Europe to Dominica.
Weather and Climate in Dominica:
Humid tropical marine, Dominica is characterized by little seasonal variation in temperatures and strong, steady trade winds. The island is among the wettest in the Caribbean. The seasonality of rainfall has lead to two seasons: the dry season and a rainy season, December/January being the driest, June/July the wettest.

FACTS:
Dominica is a small (275 sq. mile) island located in the Eastern Caribbean, between the French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. With a population of just over 70,000, its main industries are tourism & agriculture. Dominica has earned the reputation as one of the top five dive destinations in the world and has recently been called the Whale Watching Capital of the Caribbean. It is also known as the nature island for it's external beauty. It has beautiful mountainous terrain, fertile soil, beautiful waterfalls, hot and cold sulfur springs and many more.
Dominica was also one of the locations used in the filming of the new Disney movie, Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest. In 2005 Dominica was host to hundreds of the stars and crew of the film, including Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom. Parts of Pirates 3 was also filmed at the same time.
